Base Camp Rides

3 Nights 4 day Safaris
Area: 2 00km North of O.R. Tambo Airport on the N1, easily accessible by transport. We organize transport at R800/leg/person. We can accommodate groups between 2 – 6 people at a time, we emphasise that clients must be of the same riding ability. Clients must bring their own hard hat and Riding clothes.
Base camp is where we train Horses and start riding Young Horses into the Bush, the terrain is 4000 hectares with plenty of plains game, Giraffe, Zebra, Eland, Kudu, Impala, Reedbuck etc. There is plenty of bushroads and cross country rides in typical Bushveldt.
Your guide is an experienced Horseman and have 40 years guiding experience in the Bush areas of Southern Africa, with local and overseas clients. Deon is still called to help out with other outfitters on freelance basis. He helped out at Horizon Horse Trails countless times! We have sold Horses to Ant-Africa. At base camp we train young green Horses, for mostly the endurance industry. We get a lot of mistreated animals – or where people cannot look after the animals, we doctor and treat and train them as riding Horses.
Accommodation: Lodge with two en-suite rooms, where 1 room has a queen-size and a three quarter bed and the other room has two three quarter beds. It also has a separate building (cottage) with two rooms, each with two three quarter beds and a shared bathroom. All the rooms have airconditioning.

We have accommodation (right at our house), Robin’s Nest, with 2 bedrooms, 1 with queen-size bed and the other with two three quarter beds and shared bathroom, at a discount price.

Meals are provided and made by Betsie with her staff, she has been catering since 1984 and put love and passion into cooking as we do with the Horses and the Dogs and the Bush!
All drinks like coffee, tea, fruit juice, soft drinks, beer (in moderation) and wine are part of the deal.
Horses: A little different from other outride venues are used from our own stock, no special breed, well trained, and used in outride’s. Mostly Boerperd, Arab and Anglo Arab cross breeds – all turned into great Bush Horses. We spend roughly 6 hours a day riding (see itinerary on different paces, walk, trot and cantering) Most western and endurance kind of saddles, very comfortable!
Riding experience of clients should be reasonable, to be able to control Horse in walks, trot and canters in Bush environment.

Betsie Goosen

Deon has had a love for Horses and Nature all his life. His parents say that even before he could walk he studied the ants and insects intensely. Deon is like a walking encyclopedia and that, that he does not know, would do all he can to look it up. He has had great success in the training of problem Horses!
